Encourage your library users to read the world’s best fiction in translation with the International Booker Prize’s new Reading Challenge.

The International Booker Prize celebrates the world’s best fiction in translation. Each year it introduces readers to the finest novels and short story collections from around the globe that have been translated into English and published in the UK and Ireland.

The 2024 longlist of 12 or 13 books will be announced on 11 March, chosen by this year’s judging panel, which includes esteemed writer and broadcaster Eleanor Wachtel as Chair; alongside award-winning poet Natalie Diaz; Booker Prize-shortlisted novelist Romesh Gunesekera; ground-breaking visual artist William Kentridge; and acclaimed writer, editor and translator Aaron Robertson.

The shortlist of six books will be announced on 9 April, with the winning title announced at a ceremony on 21 May.

This year to coincide with the longlist, the prize is launching a new Reading Challenge to encourage readers to explore the 2024 longlist, share their thoughts, and connect with readers from around the world.

Become a Reading Challenge Ambassador

The prize is looking for three librarians from the UK and Ireland who are passionate about translated fiction to become Reading Challenge Ambassadors. The Ambassadors will be featured on the Booker Prizes and The Reading Agency’s channels, and have the chance to win tickets to the International Booker Prize 2024 ceremony.

Reading Challenge Ambassadors will be sent a set of the 12 or 13 longlisted books after the announcement on 11 March, and be asked to read as many as they can ahead of the winner announcement on 21 May. They will be interviewed twice about their progress for the Booker Prizes website and social channels and receive a spotlight from The Reading Agency. One of the three ambassadors will also be selected at random to win two tickets to the ceremony in London on 21 May, along with an overnight stay and travel expenses (terms and conditions apply).

To be considered as a Reading Challenge Ambassador, please complete the form below by midday on Friday 15 March.
